My Five Favourite Senses

My favourite sight right now is catching Ruby entertaining Greta when she thinks no one's looking. She is becoming a doting big sister and takes very good care of her little "Greta Kasnooks". She is always ready to go get her from her nap, she strongly dislikes it when Greta's not happy and not because she doesn't like the crying but because she just wants to see Greta content, and she is eager to get a giggle out of her at almost any cost.

My favourite sound is the sound of Greta and Ruby drinking. I love listening when they're chugging on whatever it is - chocolate milk, breast milk, or something in between - and they have to breathe through their noses or when they make that little "mmmmm" sound. I don't know if I adequately described that to you but I just love it. I love it even more than the sound of silence and that's saying a fair bit because right now, silence is beyond golden.

My favourite "touch" is Greta's legs. They are so smooth and silky. Her bum's not bad either :) But she has true Suderman blood in her, in that when she starts to get tickled, she freezes completely and just soaks it all in. I love that about her.

My favourite taste is victory. Parenting has its challenges these days and when I see Ruby listening the first time I tell her to do something or I see her exhibiting self control or when she says "no, thank you", "please", or "excuse me", it feels like some small victories. Hopefully there will be more in the future.

My favourite smell is still Chris' temples. But a close second is my children's temples as well. I've never actually attempted this, but I think I could probably smell my kids out of a group and maybe even tell them apart from each other. Greta's breath, Ruby's hair, Ruby's farts - oh wait, maybe not that last one - are the sweetest smells in the whole world.

I. Am. Blessed.

Livin' & Lovin' According to Ruby

"If you have to get a booger, it's prrrrrretty tickly."

***

Chris: "Ruby, what are you thinking about?"
Ruby: "I'm thinking about being a princess. I think I'm going to be Belle but I'm not going to marry the Beast. [She's never actually seen the movie so I'm not sure how she's so well-informed] I'm going to wear gloves. Papa, which Prince am I going to marry?"

***

We sometimes let Ruby watch a little bit of Survivor on Thursdays before she goes to bed.
Chris: "Who do you want to pray for tonight, Ruby?"
Ruby: "I want to pray for Sarita so she's not sad because she got voted off."

***

"Why does Nana call Gramps 'Marv'?"

***

"God lives in baby Jesus."

***

"I think you should have another baby in your tummy. Is it a boy or a girl? I think it should be a girl so Greta has a friend!"

***

"We celebrate God at church, because he's in Planet Earth."

And on and on and on and on........
