A Letter to a Dying Friend

Dear LOST,

As the last season of your life draws closer and closer each day, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your friendship over the years. The ups, the downs, the laughter, the tears. It's all been there, and it's all hit me to the core. Imagining life without you is hard, but as Celine Dion so aptly puts it, "My heart will go on".

I remember the first time I heard about you. While I was at a friend's wedding in Florida, a girl said "You should meet my friend LOST, I think you would really like him." Well, the next weekend, you came over and Chris and I spent the entire weekend and then some getting to know you right from the beginning. Holed up in our tiny house, we watched as Hurley won over our hearts with his lovable antics; Sawyer made us giggle with his silly nicknames; and Kate made us crazy with all her trail-finding abilities. I knew deep in my bowels that it was love at first sight.

And Season Two came like a rushing wind. The honeymoon phase was over but I got to know your deep side - your "Other" side. It was there that I met Ben - a man everyone loves to hate. You drew me in closer in the hatch as Desmond's accent kept me coming back for more.

But the next year was a dark season in my life. We had moved to Russia and I had little more than a cup of tea to hold on to somedays. And then there was you. You kept me breathing, you kept me waking up each day. And every Thursday when I had to spend the day agonizingly tending a bookstore that no one came to, I thought about our date that would come in the evening. As I read "War and Peace" near the Neva River, I dreamed I was sitting near the shores of the Pacific with John Locke, contemplating the future of the island. And at the end of the day, it was all I could do to not run down Prospect Bolshevikov and embrace you, my diet coke, my huge bowl of buttered popcorn and my cookies in loving arms. (I'm a bit of an emotional eater.....oops.) You carried me through a tough year and I will be forever grateful.

The next two seasons held big changes for all of us. A new baby kept me busier than ever and I no longer had time to dream of you as I previously did. But it didn't quench our love. As I sat in the middle of the night feeding Ruby in her rocking chair, I thought about Jacob sitting in his own rocking chair, wondering just who he was and what it all meant.

Your being in my life has brought others closer as well. Having parties in your name with the DiFran's has not only strengthened our bond, it strengthened my bond with them too. Thank you. And how could I leave out the joy and comfort you have brought the VBerg's. Thank you for reaching out to them when I couldn't. Thank you so much.

And now, what's left for us? Answers? Maybe. More questions? Quite possibly. But know that I will savor every last minute I have with you. I look forward to the day Kate decides who she wants, Sun and Jin are finally reunited as one, Jack finds meaning in his life once more, and Paolo and Nicki get raised from the dead. Some dreams, may never be fulfilled.

I love you, LOST, for who you are and who you have been in my life - you will always hold a special place in my heart. In the words of Charlie, "You All, Everybody".

Love your lover,
Crystal
