Well, that cursed due date has come and gone. Who came up with that idea anyway? I love a date to shoot for but when you see it fly past you, all you can do is shake your fist at the darn thing and wish you didn't know. I am not shocked that I went over my D.D. Not even surprised. I would've been surprised had I been early. My mom was due at the end of August with my oldest sister and her birthday is October 3rd. Yeah, "early" deliveries is just not in our DNA. All I can hope for is to go into labour on my own at this point and to not have to be induced. Although we certainly are doing more than just hoping. I have an IV of raspberry tea connected to me at all times and spicy szechuan chicken is our nightly meal, washed down with a nice cold glass of castor oil. There has been one constant that has kept me company those long, lonely, nights:
Sour cream cookies. Lots and lots of sour cream cookies. Lots. And lots. I have drowned my sorrows in these guys and if the baby comes out looking like one, I will not be surprised. We have considered re-naming the child Cream. Or Icing. Icing sounds a little cooler. And I just think you should take note of the extreme level of concentration on both of our faces. There is an appropriate amount of icing that a sour cream cookie should contain and my goal is usually a few degrees past that line. But it's all for Ruby, ya know? She's become a pro at licking those cookies clean, taking one bite of the cookie, and then reaching for the next one. Oh and excuse the stretchy pants but you should be thankful that at least I'm WEARING pants. Just ask Chris, he'll testify. So we continue on this road. Praying, believing, hoping for it to all end quickly, painlessly (ha!), and smoothly. I can't wait to hold Li'l Icing in my arms, possibly smearing a little on their cheeks for good measure.
Many of you know this but in case you don't, I have been diagnosed with the tiniest bladder in the whole world. It's been a family joke for as long as I can remember - on our family trip to Hawaii when I was 12, we all decided I had seen all the bathrooms in the greater Honolulu area. I was going to write a nice coffee table book about it but couldn't find a publisher. Sheesh. But being pregnant, as you can imagine, does not help this situation. Pretty much from the moment I find out I'm pregnant, I have to pee. All the time. Twice, nay, three times as often as before. There is no telling how much toilet paper I have used up in the past 9 months. And as you can also imagine, the bigger this babe in my stomach gets, the more intense the jabs to my bladder, the more I have to pee. Last night, for example, I was LITERALLY getting up every hour and a half. To pee. And then it's not a rushing gush of enormous magnitude it's more like.....tinkle...........tinkle tinkle tinkle............tink....le. And the relief! Oh it lasts for at least 20 minutes. Sweet relief. When I had Ruby, I had some complications afterwards and a catheter was put in because I wasn't allowed to get up from my bed for 2 days or something like that. Although many would hate this idea, it was the golden age of Crystal's life, those precious two days. I drank more water, juice, tea, and more water than I have ever drank. And I laughed in the face of this reckless abandon! Ha ha! Ha ha ha ha HA! I nicknamed my catheter "Cathy" because I loved her so much. And the day the nurse came to take it out, tears welled up in my eyes. I would miss you, Cathy. More than you'll ever know. The dream of going to Boston Pizza and drinking more free refills than is humanly acceptable wheeled out of my room that day forever.Last night Chris suggested a "take home" catheter which, if it hasn't already been invented, could be my claim to fame on "Dragon's Den". Imagine the freedom!Until I can patent that idea, I will just have to wait at least until this child is out of my body for some relief. At least I will go from pea-sized bladder being squished by a watermelon to just a regular ol' pea-sized bladder. Joy.
I don't really have strong feelings either way about Halloween. But this year, we bought Ruby a costume for the first time and it really doesn't get much cuter than this. And of course, Ruby ate it all up.
Plus, she had one studly Lion and a handsome Dragon to keep her company. (Not to mention a slightly overweight Owl that was a little camera shy :)
