The word on the street is everyone's tired of me missing Lisa. "Ooooh I love Lisa", "I miss Lisa", "Lisa's awesome", blah blah BLAH. But let it be known that Lisa is arriving home in less than four weeks, people, and that means no more lamenting over my bestie. Truth be told, having Lisa (and by extension Drew, Bill and SnaxBeef) back in my life will change many aspects of it - friends, church, family, break-dancing club, etc. She affects nearly every part of my life here in good ol' Southern Manitoba.
There are a few things that I will miss AFTER Lisa gets home and there's a few things that need to get done yet before they arrive. And I have a teeny tiny 'to-do' list of things I want to do before they come back and/or do for the last time.
1. Get first dibs on the salad remains at Thursday night suppers.
2. Have the entire box of Buster Bars to myself at said Thursday night suppers.
3. Pick out all the good jelly bellies from the bowl that will be waiting for them (Drew, say hello to "Mr. Butter Popcorn, Mrs. Coffee Bean and Ms. Chocolate.)
4. Enjoy a few quiet Sundays at church before the crazy screaming lady comes back :)
5. Watch Ruby enjoy the last moments of Gramps and Nana's undivided attention. (Cue: "Awwww, that's so sad")
6. Make one last trip to Sirens to get first dibs on their spring collection (weee ooooo weee ooooo)
7. Call the airport to see if noisemakers, bullhorns, and a personal PA system are allowed in the Arrivals Terminal.
8. Go through their storage boxes one more time to check if there's anything more I can sell on Ebay.
9. Debrief Ruby on bush knives, rascals, and Entomology for optimum playing experiences.
10. Call those brown apartments on Pembina ONE MORE TIME to see if there are any vacancies.
11. Hide the Disaronno.
Can't wait to see you, Sweetie ;)

10 Loooooooong Years
10 years ago I married one really handsome........boy.

And for 10 years I've been thinking, "Why didn't anyone stop us?" It's not because I didn't love Chris and it's not because I don't love Chris now. Because I do. It becomes clearer and clearer to me with each passing day of our marriage that he is the perfect guy for me. Not because he's the perfect guy (although I am fairly near to being perfect myself) but because he has made me a better person. He doesn't accept my whining, my "jabs", my grumpies but he loves me in spite of them all.
No, the reason why I think somebody should have stopped us is because WE. WERE. BABIES. I mean, look at us! We seriously look as though we were playing dress up. And in all honesty, it was almost that bad. Looking back, I think about how immature we were. The decisions I made in regards to the wedding alone were shining indicators that I was 19. Nineteen. If Ruby ever decides to get married at 19, well, this mama will have a few things to say.
I would LOVE to do my wedding over again. Maybe every bride does, I don't know, but I definitely would make a lot of changes.
Here are some of them:
- I got a manicure and my hair done. Nice. But now, I would get everything done. I would be at the spa for DAYS prior to my wedding. Because when in life do you ever have that excuse again? I should have grabbed that opportunity by the horns and sucked it for all its worth.
- And I would do waaaaay less work. I would definitely hire a wedding planner and the day before the wedding would not be spent folding napkins but would be spent having as much fun as a single gal can have.
- Our pictures were really really nice but now, I would do something far more creative and edgy. And they would represent us more, not just "what a bridal couple does" but what WE do and what WE love. I was so oblivious.
- I would have no more than 50-100 people there. Feelings might get hurt but you know what? It's not their wedding. It's mine.
- I would DEFINITELY TOTALLY have a dance. That was a huge disappointment for me because I love to dance. Chris........doesn't. But he would've done it for me because that's the kind of guy he is.
- I would have had wine, specifically champagne. I'm no boozer but alcohol just loosens people up enough to break it down to Usher's "Yeah!" ya know? And champagne bubblies are the best bubblies. :)
- I would've had my sisters as bridesmaids. Now truth be told, they did tell me that they were totally okay with not being in my wedding party as they were older, wiser, and not into white satin gloves. But they're my SISTERS. And I just wish they would've been up there with me, satin gloves and all.
- Speaking of the satin gloves, yeah, definitely no satin gloves.
- Oh the food. This was the menu: caesar salad, lasagna, garlic bread and........ice cream with chocolate shell. I will repeat that - ice cream with chocolate shell. Do you know me now? Do you know how much I like food? If you know anything about me, it's that you know I like food. And this is what I CHOSE. I chose this! It was good, don't get me wrong. But what self-respecting bride chooses ice cream with chocolate shell?????? This baffles me. I must've been smoking crack because there is no way I would ever choose this again. Yeah, for a slumber party with my BFFs maybe but for my wedding?????? Insanity. Now, the food would probably be a top priority. Beautifully presented, tasty, and the dessert would have been un-freaking-real. Okay, enough with the ranting.
- Last but certainly not least, the honeymoon. We went to Banff which is a beautiful place to go and a very nice honeymoon indeed. But let's just keep in mind here that we got married in March. PRIME tropical destination season. But we went to Banff. Did we ski? No. Do we like winter? No. Do I like driving 16 hours to get anywhere? No. But we went to Banff to cut costs (which probably didn't cut much costs at all) and now we both wish we would've just gone to Mexico and sat on a beach for a week sipping watered down margaritas and eating more queso than is humanly respectable.
Alright, so there's all of these things I would've changed but now here's the list of things I wouldn't have changed for anything:
- My bridesmaids that I did have. They are 3 women that are still some of my best friends in the whole world. Women that I respect, love, admire and cherish dearly. How many people can say that after 10 years, you're still tight with all of your bridesmaids? I'm lucky.

- My flower girl. Kelsey was the best and she was made to be a flower girl. I think she smiled more than me that day and she was so cute you could hardly stand it.

- My dress. I loved my dress. And styles have obviously changed but I think my dress was not so much 'trendy' as it was classic. I love it and would probably wear it even today.
- My flowers. I love roses and I loved my flowers. I still remember the day before the wedding when I went to the florist and as soon as I opened the door, I could smell their fragrance. They were beautiful.
- Having candlelighters. Nothing spells "special" quite like having candlelighters. [All right, it's not me if I can't add one sarcastic item into this list. Although ladies, you did a fantastic job and I didn't even make you wear satin gloves.]

- Our vows. We wrote our own and even though I couldn't recite them for memory or anything like that, they were beautiful.
- Our date. March 4th. March forth, ya know? And I like 4. :)
- That kind of unimportant detail of the groom. Yeah, I'd keep him in the picture, for sure. Even though we still had a good amount of pimples on our faces, we did love each other and wanted to share every adventure we were going to have in life with each other. And we've had some doozy of adventures since then and there's not a human on this planet that I would've rather shared them all with. From sleeping in "Fred and Wilma" beds for our 2nd anniversary in Denmark, to spending $30 on one glass of wine in a French restaurant in St. Pete's for our 6th anniversary and everything in between, all the memories have been worth it.
I love you Beeb. Here's to 10x10 more :)
